I Am

Hope Walls posted a great exercise that really got me thinking. This has been a tough assignment to complete in the last week because I have struggled with simply making it through the day for the last 5 days straight. Both my precious girls have been sick with the flu. So here would be my list if I couldn't get past what only makes me stronger.

I am a wife to my best friend.
I am a mother to our beautiful girls.
I am a bucket holder.
I am a carpet cleaner.
I am a laundry mat.
I am a toilet scrubber.
I am very sleep deprived.
I am not a good housekeeper.
I am at my wits end.

Yes, that is not a great list but that has been my struggle this past week. I have taken some time today to revisit my list and this is what I am.

  • I am a mother to our beautiful girls.
  • I am a wife to my best friend.
  • I am a daughter, sister, auntie and niece.
  • I am a huge family person and love spending time with my husband and daughters. Good times or bad I learn so much from the most important people in my life and they do make me stronger.
  • I am shy and very passive. I am working on changing and being more outgoing.
  • I am a listener. You can talk to me for hours and I will listen.
  • I am very creative and artistic.
  • I am a photographer at home, and nervous and excited to pursue it farther.
  • I am losing sleep because I can't stop thinking.
  • I am still looking for my passion so I don't have to go to "work". I will only "play" all day long. I think photography might be that passion but time will tell.

Symmetry

Create a pair of images where one is symmetrical and one is asymmetrical.

Rule of Red

Using the rule of red to create a point of interest.

S-Curve

I was out walking with the kids when I stumbled upon these s-curves. I did find it a challenge to create an exposure that I liked because of all the bright snow. However, here are my favorites.

I decided that the slide at the park made a great s-curve.

Game Scene - February 16

Create a scene with a game while incorporating more creative elements. Show mood or tell a story while photographing the scene.

This too is in the works. I have many ideas but haven't put it into action.

Horizon Composition

Shoot a landscape with a distinct horizon and create a series of four different images without moving or changing the focal length.I have finally found my horizon so here it is.

I don't think this image is all wrong because of the interest that the jetstream adds. I find I don't want to tilt my head sideways because the jetstream balances the image for me. However, I can see tilting my head if I didn't pick up on the jetstream.

The horizon in the top third of the image really lacks interest and is really boring but really does focus my attention to the sunset.

The horizon in the middle cuts the image in half.

The bottom third has a lot of interest for me. I find it focuses on the sky which has lots of interest with the sun setting with the clouds. I also find that the jetstream points to the sun and adds interest by pointing towards the sunset.

My biggest challenge with this composition was to capture the images fast enough in order to eliminate the distraction of vehicles headlights. The other challenge I had was to capture the images fast enough so that my two girls would stop crying. After all how long can two little girls sit still in a car that isn't moving after travelling for 5 hours!!

DLS Still Life and Perspective

I have set up a still life and taken a series of images, each with a different perspective. My camera and I were the only ones to move during this exercise.

DLS Metering Exercise

I completed this exercise a while back but struggled with which pictures to include in this post. I am sure I have picked the best images of the bunch.

Evenly lit.

Metering for an evenly lit image when experiencing sidelighting.

Exposing for the shadows and the highlights.

Backlit.

I thought this was a perfect silhouette until I downloaded it. I now realize, if I move the subject a little farther from the window it would be a perfect silhouette.
