Love the Blur - DLS Feb. 2

Yes, I love the blur. The right kind of blur makes a great picture. I took the kids to the park, even though it was "a bit chilly out" to take blurry pictures with the following settings ISO 100, f22.0, SS 1/60.

Here are two pictures I captured while sliding down a twisty slide.

An image captured while my husband was running through the frame as the image exposed.

An image captured while I was running during exposure. I really like the blur in this shot.

Starting over with Blogger

I had previously created a blog on wordpress but discovered that it was easier to follow fellow photography classmates using Blogger. So I have finally gathered some time and decided to jump on in and post my previous blogs. Soon I will have many more posts to put up and didn't want to be so far behind that I would feel I would never catch up!! Now that I have completed the task of creating this blog, I need to go download some pictures!!

DLS Week 3

Take a clear bowl and place it in the kitchen sink with water running into it and spilling over the edges. Now create two different pictures: one where the water is "frozen", the other the water is "flowing".

img_0705-flowing
The bowl is still crisp and clear but the water is frothy and "flowing".

img_0741-frozen
The water is "frozen". You can see clear crisp edges and droplets of water.

DLS Week 2

Create a 5 object still life image. Using the settings F8.0, ISO 100 and SS60 take a photograph.

img_0683-shutter
ISO 100, AV 8.0 and SS 15. This image appears to have a little noise in the background but blurs enough of it to not distract away from the objects.

img_0673-iso
ISO 400, AV 8.0 and SS 60. This image appears to have a lot more noise in the background but appears to have more light resulting in greater detail in the tablecloth.

img_0678-av
ISO 100, AV 3.5 and SS 60. This image is a brighter image with a shallower depth of field. The face of the zebra appears to be clearer than the other two images and really focuses on the objects.

DLS Week 1 Bonus Bokeh

The object of this task was to focus on a near object with lights in the background in order to create Bokeh balls.

AV 4.0, ISO 200, SS 4

DLS Week 1 Task 3

The object was to create a still life photograph and correctly expose the image with three distinct camera settings. Here are photographs of the three images captured.

img_0491-web
AV 4.0, ISO 100, SS 30This image is saturated in color which draws my attention to the objects. The objects have a little more detail and the writing is in focus on the bottle.

img_0492-web
AV 4.0, ISO 200, SS 50This image is brighter and seems to have a little more softness to it without losing detail.

img_0497-web
AV 1.8, ISO 200, SS 250This image draws me into the still life as it is focused on the objects and the rest is lost in Bokeh oblivion. The objects tend to look more realistic due to the amount of light that is bouncing off the objects.

DLS Week 1 Task 2

This task involved heading outside and finding a straight edge. The next step involved manually focusing and posting 3 pictures with distinct focal points. Here are the results.

DLS Week 1 Task 1

The object of this task was to learn the law of reciprocity. I lined up 5 people and had to get them all in focus and exposed correctly. I experienced camera shake and had to increase my f-stops 16 times. Here are the results.

AV 3.5, ISO 100, SS 1600

My Beautiful Girls

My girls have filled my life with joy and helped me discover my passion for photography. I had always thought about pursuing photography but always fell short of making it happen. Since having my first girl, I haven't been able to put down my camera. I was finally able to find purpose in buying a DSLR and using my creativity. My two girls with all their sugar and spice have allowed me to capture amazing pictures of them. Here are a few photos from their Christmas session.

First Newborn Session

I am grateful for having the opportunity to photograph my friend's newborn baby girl. She was only two weeks old when I took these pictures. Little Julia did not want to sleep and she did not want to curl up with her legs underneath her!!

Eventually she had a tummy full and tuckered out, which allowed me to capture her sleeping peacefully.

This session was a challenge and a success. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity Megan.

First Photography Session

My sister and her boyfriend are the wonderful people in my very first photography session. She had decided she needed a picture for her Christmas card. So we set up the camera and rearranged their home to make a studio. This was the result.

This is the picture she had envisioned.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the session.

Nothing completes Christmas like Morgan in her Santa hat. She was a difficult lady to work with but I got the perfect pose.
